Obama's Achilles heel

The press is finally starting to report on Barack Obama's dealings with Tony Rezko. I hope die hard Obama supporters literally read it and begin weeping the bitterest of tears. May this story--and many, many others like it--spread far and wide!

The Rezko Connection: Obama's Achilles Heel?

How Obama turns good people evil

I came across a post on Boing Boing today that talked about the famous Stanford Prison Experiment done by Philip Zimbardo. Zimbardo was presenting on the subject of evil at the TED 2008 conference, and he used a slide titled "7 Social Processes That Grease the Slippery Slope of Evil." As I glanced at the seven processes, it struck me that they are also the steps that every Obamaton goes through on their descent into madness. Let's examine each step:

1.) Mindlessly taking the first small step: This is easy enough, like when a nascent Obamaton visits barackobama.com out of curiosity

2.) Dehumanization of others: After the brainwashing process begins at the web site, then the Obamaton will begin to deride his or her Clinton-supporting friends with hurtful names.

3.) De-individuation of self: The Obamaton will attend an Obama rally and start believing in trite sayings that speak to the group, such as "we are the change we have been waiting for."

4.) Diffusion of personal responsibility: The Obamaton will begin to think that they can offload their responsibility to make America a better place through sacrifice to Obama, who will change and fix everything that is wrong with the country, even with no experience and no specific plans. All the Obamaton has to do is a) hope and b) believe.

5.) Blind obedience to authority: Obama: "Vote for me!" Obamaton (in monotone zombie voice): "Yes, I will vote for you."

6.) Uncritical conformity to group norms: Obamaton: "Like, omg!!1! All of my bff's are voting for Obama, so I will too!"

7.) Passive tolerance of evil through through inaction or indifference: When Obama lies about Hillary's record (NAFTA being a "boon" to Ohio, etc.), Obamatons will sit back and say nothing, even though their savior candidate is supposed to be "new" and "different" and certainly well above engaging in politics like that.

Yes, I think this all adds up to evil.

Too little, too late?

There was an excellent article in the Houston Press today about Barack Obama's time in the Illinois State Senate.

Barack Obama and Me by Todd Spivak

The article makes a strong case that all of his state senate "accomplishments"--those that he and his supporters list as proof of his readiness for the presidency--were really handed to him by a powerful black politician. What's worse, Obama often took credit for the hard work of other black politicians who actually did the work but got none of the credit.

My, my... these aren't very hopeful or changeful tactics from this "new" type of politician. It's a wonderful article, but I will never understand why it wasn't published sooner.

And Tina Fey did say unto us: "Bitch is the new black!"

Blind devotion

Other leaders have inspired blind devotion too...

Put the emphasis on "mindless"

The perfect salve

You know what always makes me feel better about life? Making fun of GLAAD.

Do you see how GLAAD "apoints" six new members to the board? GLAAD "apoints," unlike the rest of us who "appoint." Also, check out the date. I love that the strategic misspelling has been up for nine days.

Wisconsin, tu stultus es

So, Wisconsinites are as dumb as I had feared.

I was chatting with a good friend today who grew up in Wisconsin (he had the good sense to move to New York) and he came up with an even better variation on Obamatard: Hopetard. I like it and am going to use it frequently.

So, I still have hope (real hope, not the fake hope of the hopetards) that Hillary can still make this election interesting.

An Obama supporter by any other name

There are many things we can call people who support Obama: sheep, lemmings, cultists... But my favorite term comes from Wonkette.com: Obamatard.

Here's hoping the voters of the great state of Wisconsin do the right thing tomorrow and deal the Obamatards a crushing defeat.

What does he stand for?

Words of wisdom from Erica Jong: "But the truth is, we have no idea what [Obama] stands for. At least I don't. All we have are soundbites and attacks on 'the' Clintons. But I guess the great American Amnesiate prefers it that way. And they always get what they deserve in the White House. Last time it was Dubya -- the dumb son of the CIA who showed them by never heeding their warnings..."

Those who insist their support for Obama has absolutely nothing to do with sexism doth protest too much.

An open letter to America

Dear America,

I hate you, especially your dumb citizens who put more stock in catchy, empty phrases than real plans and real solutions. But, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It is this exactly the same love of vacuous prosody and slick charm that got George W. Bush elected.

Yours,
VoxDixit

P.S. So nice to see that misogyny is still alive and well and such a thriving part of your body politic.

Can't decide which I like better

This one that says Barack Obama is inexperienced:

Or this one that highlights Obama's empty hope and change "platform":

Decisions, decisions...

Hmm... where'd these come from?

Someone left all of this trash outside of my building today...

Into the recycling bag, my pretties!

The moment we've all been waiting for

I got a letter in the mail yesterday from those scamps over at Sallie Mae. In October, my loans will be resetting to a higher payment plan. This means that the percentage of my income that will go towards paying my student loans will officially be higher than the percentage of my income that goes toward paying for my housing. I would make a helpful chart, but I don't feel like it. Here's another way of looking at it though:

Percentage of my income:

Student loans - 35%
Housing - 28%

This says that housing and debt combined should account for no more than 36% of your income. Thanks Sallie Mae, for helping me fulfill my dream of lifelong indebtedness!
