If anyone out there can explain this mystery to me, please leave a comment:Why do straight women who have female friends insist on referring to those female friends as "girlfriends"? For example, straight women often say things like this:
Straight woman: "My girlfriend and I like to go shopping together."
Why doesn't she just say, "My friend and I like to go shopping together"?
I like to go shopping with my girlfriend too, but for entirely different reasons, believe you me.
